The Department of Canadian Heritage (Government of Canada)
The Department of Canadian Heritage (Government of Canada) is pleased to offer scholarships to encourage young Canadians who wish to improve their proficiency in their second official language of Canada (English or French) and wish to pursue studies, on a full-time basis, at a Canadian university which functions in the other official language and in a milieu in which that language predominates.
Award description
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Be entering the third or fourth year of their first bachelor’s degree in Fall 2026
o Exception: Students enrolled in Quebec institutions must be entering the second year of their first bachelor’s degree
- Be enrolled in their studies on a full time basis
- Have applied to or registered for a 1–2 semester academic exchange at a recognized Canadian university for 2026–2027
o The exchange must be credit bearing and completed through a formal exchange agreement or a national/provincial exchange program
- Pursue the exchange primarily (more than 50% of courses) in their second official language
- Demonstrate sufficient language proficiency to study in that language
- Ineligible programs of study include:
• Translation
• Professional degrees pursued after a first bachelor’s degree (e.g. B.Ed., LL.B., M.D.)
