Alberta Health Services (AHS) 91快色 Zone and the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Anselmo, MD, as the head of the Department of Paediatrics effective Dec. 1, 2018.

We are grateful for Dr. James (Jim) Kellner鈥檚, MD, leadership for the past 10 years which brought significant growth of the department, now more than 400 members, and improvements in clinical services, research productivity and education programming. Dr. Kellner is taking a research and scholarship leave for one year to further study quality improvement and data science and continue research on vaccine preventable infections. 

Dr. Anselmo has been Facility Medical Director (FMD) of the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) since 2014 and prior to that was the section chief of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine. At ACH, Dr. Anselmo was an integral part of the leadership team that steered implementation of a computer-based early warning system and enhanced quality control processes.

Dr. Anselmo is an associate member of the Alberta Children鈥檚 Hospital Research Institute and an associate professor of Pediatrics. His clinical interests include asthma, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension with a research focus in lung disease and medical leadership. 

Dr. Anselmo earned his medical degree from the University of Alberta, underwent residency training at the University of Saskatchewan and pulmonary fellowship training at Harvard University. He and his family returned to Alberta in 2010 after spending seven years in Quebec while Dr. Anselmo was working at the Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital.
